Foto Friday #9, 50th Anniversary

I know it's not Friday, but I started working on this yesterday and then scrapped it all today and started over. (That was a thinly veiled attempt at humor. "scrapped it". Heh.)

This is my best layout so far, I just started doing this a few days ago.

The photo was taken at my paternal great-grandparents' 50th anniversary, September 1911. (click for larger inage)

Foto Friday #7, OORAH!

I'm deviating from the archive photos today in honor of my son. He's our middle child, and he left yesterday morning for an 8-month deployment in Afghanistan with the US Marine Corps. One of these days this, too, will be considered an historical family photograph.

I found this photograph in my files today, and as a result have spent the entire afternoon trying to find my old Family Tree Maker genealogy files. They're here somewhere, put away for safe keeping. *sigh*

This is Sarah Alderson Woodson, the mother of Emma Virginia Woodson Gillispie, making her my maternal great-great-grandmother.

Aug. 14, 1822 - July 22, 1898

Foto Friday #3

This is the home where my great grandparents lived. Built it 1770, it still stands today. The photo was taken by one of my uncles, and my grandmother had this hanging in her apartment when she died in 1976.

The house is just down the road from my grandparents' home where my youngest uncle and his wife still live.

Foto Friday #2

Continuing the series, this is a photo of my grandparents. I'm not sure of the date, but it was most likely taken in the 1940's judging from my grandfather's appearance.

 

 Marion (b.1884 - d. 1960) and Willie Eva (b. 1887 - d. 1976 ). 

They were married on November 27, 1907.

Foto Friday #1

I have decided to start something new here in the Sunny South. Each Friday I am going to post a vintage photograph, of which I have many. To start things off, here is a photo of my great-grandparents. Behind them is the C&O Railroad bridge that my mother and her siblings used when they needed to cross the river for church.

Bunyan was born in 1853, and died in 1937. Jennie was born in 1859, and died in 1943. They were married on October 10, 1877.
