Charting a new course

I embarked on a new adventure today! Shocking, I know. Not really all that shocking, as most of you know. I joined a book club. No, it isn't the type of club where you join, get ten free books that you really like and then several dozen more over the next year because you were too lazy to send back the reply form until you finally throw your hands in the air, admit defeat, and then cancel as soon as you are legally allowed to.

I -the self-avowed internet junkie- have joined a book club at my church. It meets once a week for a month, and I had my choice of 11 am or 6:30 pm. Morning? Seriously? Woohoo! Finally, now that I am working again, I can do this. Finally, I am not tied to a 9 to 5 or 10 to 2 work day. As music director, a good portion of my work is all in my head and in my computer as I plan the weekly music and the seasonal programs. There were about a dozen of us for this morning's first introductory session. I already know most of the ladies, but it was wonderful to see some new faces.

We got right down to business and began discussing the background of the author, her motivation, a little about some of the unfamiliar terminology, and where we were coming from in wanting to be there. We have homework for next week, reading the first section of the book. Easy peasy!

If you would like to join in, virtually speaking, we are reading Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. Once we finish the book, we'll be going as a group to see the movie, starring Julia Roberts. It opens August 13th, right before our last get-together.

I'll let you know how it's going as I read.

Until then, eat - pray - love.
