Being Bodacious, part 3

I'm totally feeling very un-bodacious today, so I thought I should get caught up before Jane posts a new one.:)

What's in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet...

•Why were you given your name?

I have to say I honestly don't know. I do know that I was not named for my father's boss' wife. Mother said that emphatically over the years. *laughs*

•What does it mean?

Rebecca: Servant Of God.
Origin: Hebrew

•Has your name influenced you as a person / your personality?

I didn't care much for my name when I was a child. Growing up in the early 1960's, I was teased and called "Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm." Girls today would be hard-pressed to even know what that meant. 'Becky' was perky, and not sophisticated and 'normal' like my friends' names. In grade school I only knew one other 'Becky', and only one more in High School. When I reached college age, I began to use Rebecca on printed music programs; it sounded more professional to me.

•What does your name mean to you?

The meaning given up above is amazing considering that almost all of my professional life has been spent as a church musician and choir director. I have also raised serving on and chairing committees to a new level, but that's another story.

Part 2 in the Being Bodacious series!

Janey sure knows how to get right to the heart of things.

We all want to know what your personal theme song is… and why you chose it. Why it speaks to you and for you. How it makes you feel.

I actually had to think about this one overnight. I'm a musician and I have a million and one favorite songs for all occasions. But in the deepest dark of the night while I was muttering epithets at the dog for waking us up three times in one night, I remembered this one.

I have sung it as a solo, I have sung it for several funerals, and it speaks to my heart; to who we are in this changing thing we call life. We're all along for the ride, and how and where we choose to sit in the boat makes all the difference in where we end up and what shape we're in when we get there.

The River
(Garth Brooks)

You know a dream is like a river
Ever changin' as it flows
And a dreamer's just a vessel
That must follow where it goes
Trying to learn from what's behind you
And never knowing what's in store
Makes each day a constant battle
Just to stay between the shores...and

I will sail my vessel
'Til the river runs dry
Like a bird upon the wind
These waters are my sky
I'll never reach my destination
If I never try
So I will sail my vessel
'Til the river runs dry

Too many times we stand aside
And let the waters slip away
'Til what we put off 'til tomorrow
Has now become today
So don't you sit upon the shoreline
And say you're satisfied
Choose to chance the rapids
And dare to dance the tide...yes

I will sail my vessel
'Til the river runs dry
Like a bird upon the wind
These waters are my sky
I'll never reach my destination
If I never try
So I will sail my vessel
'Til the river runs dry

There's bound to be rough waters
And I know I'll take some falls
But with the good Lord as my captain
I can make it through them all...yes

I will sail my vessel
'Til the river runs dry
Like a bird upon the wind
These waters are my sky
I'll never reach my destination
If I never try
So I will sail my vessel
'Til the river runs dry

Yes, I will sail my vessel
'Til the river runs dry
'Til the river runs dry

Now it's your turn. Tell us what your theme song is and then go to Janey's blog and read all the others. It's a sisterhood here, ladies. And I'll bet even you guys out there can relate to this one.

I'm Bodacious!

Who knew? Well in all fairness, it seems that Citizen Jane did. She has tossed out a challenge to us ladies, and that challenge is this:

"One thing I love about my body is…"

Tough one, yes? Yes. She will be issuing a challenge each week and you can bet yer bippy I'm going to take part. I just dated myself horribly, didn't I. Oh well, you youngsters who didn't get it are just lacking in your understanding of great classic comedy.

So on to today's challenge.

What do I love about my body? This is difficult because like every other woman I know, I don't like very much about it. My hair is graying beneath all that L'Oreal, my weight is as stuck as an old outhouse door (and yes, I have seen a stuck outhouse door and it wasn't pretty), and my skin is beginning to show 'laugh lines' in more places than I have smiles.

But in spite of all of that, I have great legs. No matter what my weight has done, it has never seemed to extend to my legs. No matter how ballooned I was when I was borderline toxic and great with child, my ankles barely swelled.

I have to admit that I never ever considered any part of me bodacious, because seriously? That's so Beverly Hillbillies and when I think of them I tend to remember that old out house and ...

My legs. That's my answer and I'm stickin' to it.

Now it's your turn. Answer the challenge and then head on over to Jane's and post the link. Go on now, shoo!
